Notebook holder tutorial

I've been making some notebook holders for Christmas gifts and also to sell at a charity Christmas Fair I will be attending next month.  They are so easy to make and I think they look good so I thought I'd share a tutorial with you.

Here are a couple I've already made - one I think I've shown before.

These are the note books I used - they come from Paperchase and cost £2 each but you can buy them in any stationery shop.  They measure 5 7/8" x 4 1/8".  (If anyone can tell me how to write fractions on a blog post I would be very grateful!)

And here is the book I will show you how to make today.

Okay, so I'll start but I will warn you it is a long post but it's nearly all photos which should make it easier to follow.

You will need

2 sheets of A4 card stock or one sheet of 12" x 12" card stock to make your folder.
A selection of patterned papers - I used Stampin Up paper stack because the size was perfect.
Adhesive of choice
Corner rounder
Ink pad and sponge dauber
Paper trimmer with scoring attachment or a scoring board
Note book
2 craft magnets
Glossy accents or similar strong adhesive

My measurements are based on using A4 cardstock - if you use 12" x 12" you will need to adjust the size of your patterned paper for the flaps.

Trim a 1 1/2" strip off length of card so it now measures 6 1/4" x A4 length

Sorry, this should read "stick your magnet down where I have marked an X".  That will teach me to make things when it's gone midnight!

I went wrong here and rounded both bottom corners as you will see on the following pictures!

I made a couple of tags to pop in the pocket.

An October day

A quick post from me showing my page using Sue's fabulous October sketch.  I also tied it in with the weekly challenge on UKs where we had 10 things to choose from and I chose Autumn, something metallic and cosy.  I used brads for the metallic bit and cosy - well we were both wearing hoodies and they are cosy so hopefully that fits the bill and Autumn, well, you can see from the photo:)

Playing in my craft room...

I don't often make things because I want to - it's usually because I have to so today I thought I'd play a bit.  I've seen lots of Halloweeny things on Pinterest and wanted to make a small box to hold some treats for any callers we get at the end of the month.  This is a mish mash of several boxes I've seen.

I also made a cover for a shopping list jotter

Comfy?

Alfie is a poorly doggie and keeps falling over and we have to be careful if he gets on the furniture that we watch him.  For whatever reason, his back arches and he topples over backwards and could hurt himself.  Having said that, he does like to be comfortable and when we were in our camper recently, he enjoyed laying on the back of the settee, looking out of the window.  When he was up there we'd pack loads of cushions around him just in case...

He's slipped down behind the cushions a bit ...

Anyway, this week the challenge on UKs was to:-

Firstly, we'd like you to use this sketch chosen by the team - 10 points

Secondly, please use yellow and black on your LO. Long story behind it, but our team logo includes yellow and black stripey legs! - 10 points

Thirdly, we love altered art so please alter something - change the colour of chipboard letters, add buttons to flowers, that kind of thing - 5 points

Finally, we are the Secret Swappers so please include something secret - maybe a hidden journalling tag or photo - 5 points

Beat the Christmas Rush for October

Another 5 Christmas cards ticked off  the list - I have used some of my new SU stamps which I am loving.  The embossing folder is one I already had and can't remember who makes it.

Very simple but quite effective I think and shamelessly cased from Pinterest Lol!

Miss you already

I thought I'd better catch up on some scrapbook pages after being away on holiday for two weeks so I have started with the weekly challenge on UKs which was to:-



Good morning and welcome to my first solo challenge !! Hope you like it.

A few important dates for this week are :

September 28th 1924 - The 1st round the world flight completed - Please use EITHER 1, 9, 2 or 4 circles on your LO – this can be the pattern in your paper, embellishments that you use such as buttons, you can cut your photos into circles etc ... you choose 

September 29th World Heart Day - scrap about something/someone you love and use some red on your LO

September 30th 1955 - James Dean died, he was in 3 movies. - Please scrap 3 photos (B&W would be good but not a requirement)

Recap 
Use 1,9,2 or 4 circles ... 10 points
World Heart Day - Something/someone you love ... 5 points, use red ... 5 points
Use 3 photos ... 10 points


I chose to use 9 circles, I scrapped a picture of my son and granddaughter who I love dearly, used red and finally scrapped 3 photos but not in black and white.

The photos were taken the day we went on holiday - we met up with Adam, Lucy and Erin-Rose for breakfast at our local garden centre.

This is the journalling but I am a bit cross that I smudged it a bit - the ink takes ages to dry on the shiny surface of the stickers.
